A Hundred Islands, Alaminos City

On a visit to the Phillipines and happily had the time to visit Alaminos City, about five hours drive north of Manila and the Hundred Islands National Park which is accessible by boat from the tourist wharf.

We toured a small number of the islands on a day trip, including Pilgrimage Island with its giant golden Jesus the Saviour statue, Quezon Island, Children’s Island and another island with a large cave. The islands are more like rocky atolls and appear to have once had a coral reef which is no more. There are still schools of fish to be spotted here and there. The local way though seems to be to hire a picnic gazebo for the day and having an endless supply of food on hand, hopping in for a soak in the sea in between munchies.

Back in town we snuck in a side visit to the Alaminos Suki Market

and a barangay (also called barrio, or village) far off the main roads from town.

A relaxing slice of the Filipino countryside.
